Adam Smith
**Adam recently appeared on Channel 9 on the Kerri-Anne show. Check out the footage at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9KxffIjMYY
Adam first found his passion for dancing in late 2004 after being invited to a Royal Crown Revue concert in Newtown by a neo swing music enthusiast. Having no idea what 'Neo' Swing was and no idea who Royal Crown Revue were, Adam said "I'll be there!". It is there that he first discovered swing dancing and witnessed the cult that is Swing. Despite being taught Rock'n'Roll dancing on the night, Adam decided to see what this Swing thing was all about. So began his obsession with all things swing...
Adam has become a swing devotee, one night of dancing a week turning into two then three. "I just can't get enough. I can remember one week dancing every night for 7 days straight. The only reason I stop is to rest and build the energy for more!" Adam has become hooked on Swing, spending as much time as he can learning from as many teachers as he can find, always seeking tips and tid bits to get that move right. Adam attends every workshop (as far as the budget will stretch) and has learnt from many great Melbourne and International teachers. Many late nights are spent watching DVD's, studying technique, finding those great moves, and being inspired to become a better dancer.
Having a love for all the dances from the period, Lindy Hop, Balboa, Charleston, Shag, you name it he'll do it. Adam is often seen running onto the floor when the fast tempos start playing, then walking off breathless but with a big smile. "It is great to watch couples out on the dance floor tearing it up and hitting the breaks. I love it when the music has that beat that my feet just can't say no to. I love the feeling I get when the music just grabs me! You've just got to jump in and give it a go. You regret the things in life that you don't do, not the ones that you do..."
Personal Highlights:
- Competing for the first time at the Sydney Jitterbug Championships. It was an awesome feeling and you could not wipe the smile from my face. To be in a whole room full of people cheering and clapping and getting involved is fantastic, you can't help but laugh and join in.
- Travelling to dance - Canberra, Thredbo, Melbourne, Lismore, it's so much fun! To arrive somewhere and meet so many people that have a passion so great in common is fantastic!
